What's the 'Scandal' Behind Mainstream Media

This past week concluded the second season of the popular ABC TV series "Scandal." If you're not familiar with the show, Kerry Washington stars as a crisis management expert who keeps all of the elite's dirtiest secrets from reaching the public. Kerry's character, Olivia Pope (based on the life of Judy Smith), has a secret of her own... She's the mistress of the President of the United States. YBW applauds Kerry for her outstanding performance on the show and we also applaud the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, who is also an African-American woman. Rhimes created the show partially based off of the real life experience of yet another Black woman, Judy Smith, who served as the press aide for the George Bush Administration. If you haven't seen the show, we encourage you to watch it. It's intriguing. But while we applaud the creators of "Scandal," we must also applaud the work of Lamar and Ronnie Tyler, the married couple behind an award-winning website about Black love. In addition to the website, the Tylers have also created a number of popular films about Black love and family. Far too often, mainstream media portrays our women and men in an undesirable light. There seems to be more of an interest to market and promote scandalous Black men and women than respected Black men and women. The good news is we can change that and we must do it today. This weekend, I partnered with the Tylers to bring you a unique opportunity to purchase their Black Family Film Pack DVDs (valued at $20 apiece) for $30. In addition to the films, you'll receive a free digital copy of my book titled Financial Lovemaking 101. Today is the last day to take advantage of this sale and it ends at 11:59 EDT. No one is saying you shouldn't enjoy "Scandal," but while you're putting more money into mainstream media's pockets, you can also support independent Black filmmakers who are bringing positive images of Black love to your television screen. Today is the day we can make that happen. Click here to order your black family pack. Until we meet again, please stay strong, be blessed and be educated. Sincerely, Dr. Boyce www.boborecords.com
